SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) is a comprehensive warehouse management solution. SAP has been developing warehouse management solutions for more than 30 years. As warehouse operations became larger, more automated, and more complex, warehouse management systems also had to evolve.

Inventory management: SAP EWM manages inventory at the storage-bin level and records all stock movements in real time. Built-in physical inventory and stock reconciliation features help keep accurate records and reduce discrepancies.
Goods movement management: SAP EWM manages all goods movements, including goods receipt, storage, replenishment, stock transfers, picking, and goods issue, optimizing warehouse operations and material flow.

Each work center can be configured for specific business processes and user roles, so that employees access only the information needed for their tasks.
Physical inventory: SAP EWM provides comprehensive physical inventory capabilities, allowing organizations to verify warehouse stock against system records. Inventory counts can be performed by product, storage bin, or cycle counting. The system also supports inventory difference processing, tolerance limits, zero-stock and low-stock checks, and radio-frequency-assisted inventory counting, thereby improving accuracy and reducing operational effort.
Warehouse monitoring: SAP EWM offers real-time visibility into inventory, warehouse tasks, and ongoing operations. Built-in monitoring tools help managers identify bottlenecks, track performance, and respond quickly to operational issues.

Slotting and rearrangement: The system analyzes product characteristics, picking frequency, and storage requirements to determine the optimal storage bin. It can also recommend or execute stock rearrangements to improve space utilization.
Cross-docking: SAP EWM allows incoming goods to be transferred directly to outbound shipments without long-term storage. This reduces handling activities and shortens order fulfillment times.

Labor management: The system supports workforce planning, performance measurement, and comparison of actual execution times with predefined labor standards.
