Migration from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud Edition for a European Agricultural Machinery Manufacturer

A leading European manufacturer of agricultural machinery was operating on the legacy SAP ERP. With the upcoming end of support for ECC, they needed to migrate from their solution to SAP S/4HANA. To save on infrastructure and licensing costs, they decided to move from the on-premise deployment to SAP Private Cloud – and chose ACBaltica as their migration partner. 

Customer

The customer is a well-established European producer of advanced agricultural equipment, specializing in machinery for planting, harvesting, and fertilizing potatoes. Their operations rely on stable, efficient manufacturing and supply chain processes supported for years by SAP ECC 6 EHP8.

As SAP announced the upcoming end of support for ECC, the company chose to move to SAP S/4HANA 2021 Private Cloud Edition to ensure long-term continuity and access to ongoing SAP innovations – while also saving on infrastructure and licensing costs. 

Challenge

The objective was to migrate from SAP ECC 6 EHP8 to SAP S/4HANA 2023 PCE, ensuring a stable and future-proof ERP environment while maintaining day-to-day operations.

Cloud adds new complexity

Shifting from an on-premise landscape to SAP’s cloud infrastructure usually requires close alignment with SAP. In this case, ACBaltica’s team had regular coordination calls with SAP to clarify responsibilities, address cloud limitations, and ensure the timely readiness of the environment. However, while this communication added an additional layer of communication, it did not impact the overall timeline. 

Smaller-than-average custom codebase

The customer had fewer custom developments than typical SAP ECC systems.
This resulted in 242 priority-1 ABAP findings – noticeably below the usual average of ~500 — helping shorten the migration timeline.
