Winncom, a global distributor and provider of telecom solutions, was using a legacy on-premise ERP system that lacked scalability, had limited capabilities, failed to provide visibility across global operations, and featured inefficient and sometimes manual operations. Additionally, the platform was nearing the end of its life.  Winncom was seeking a modern and efficient cloud solution to replace their existing system, support their growth, and streamline business operations in accordance with best practices. They chose to migrate to S/4HANA Public Cloud and subsequently implement SAP Sales Cloud, aiming to achieve an integrated, cloud-first, AI-driven platform that connects and unifies sales and operational processes.

Winncom Technologies is a global distributor and provider of comprehensive networking solutions – both wireless and wired. The company operates in 17 locations worldwide, including:

 Challenge

Winncom was relying on a legacy on-premise Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP system that had become a barrier to growth. The platform lacked scalability and couldn’t support key functions – especially in logistics and global visibility. Additionally, it was nearing end-of-life, meaning end of support, no critical security updates. 

Some critical issues included:

  • Manual and fragmented processes (many handled in Excel)

  • No proper workflow for essential processes (e.g., payments or fixed asset tracking)

  • Missing sales orders due to email-only communication and non-transparent sales order flow

  • Inability to properly track debts, assets, and approvals

  • No real-time data to support decision-making

The company was ready to standardize operations, digitize core processes, and enable real-time insights to support business growth and improve customer experience, eventually increasing revenue opportunities.

Why Public Cloud

Implementation process

The project started with the goal to implement/automate 45 processes, and eventually the list grew to 73 processes, covering automation for lines of business listed below (LoB):
  • Finance
  • Sales
  • Sourcing and Procurement
Previously, all those processes were carried out in a custom way – but with the transition to SAP S/4HANA, they were implemented according to SAP best practices. 
Since Winncom doesn’t have an internal IT team, business users led the process. Due to that, some gaps were discovered late in the project. However, thanks to ACBaltica’s on-site support, the go-live in North and South America proceeded smoothly. Due to careful preparation, the ACBaltica team successfully avoided downtime and went live without pausing business processes. A global rollout is planned next.

Project scope consisted of 73 items, including country-specific processes: 

  • Integration with Avalara for external tax calculations
  • Lockbox, Dispute Management, BCM
  • Advanced Cash Management (local payment provider integration)
  • Collection and Dispute Management (to run controversial payment cases)
  • Credit Management to prevent credit debt growth
  • Rebates Management customized for Winncom’s needs
  • Serial Number Application (including custom development for long serial numbers)
  • Digital Payment Sales based on the integration of the SAP Digital Payments add-on and payment provider (PayFabric)
